First two days in Sardinia

Monday September 30th - early start - on the bikes as the sun is coming up in Bonifacio all in aid of getting to the ferry over to the north tip of Sardinia. Click on the photos to get larger renditions.

We sail out past the old city in the morning light.
Arriving in Sardinia with Corsica in the background...
Off the ferry around 10:30 - just over a hundred kilometres to San Teodoro for tonight's stop. A different mix of scenery in Sardinia compared with what we left behind in Corsica...
A lot of hills today with a couple of them being too steep to ride up for short distances.
After the hills, we descended to the east coast for the last 30 km to San Theodoro. The flamingos (and  herons and spoonbills) below were in water adjacent to the highway coming into town, nice to get so many birds in one photo.
The hotel was a couple of hundred metres from the water and we had time for a swim before dinner. The photo below was from our balcony, the red TDA lunch van in the parking lot. Dinner that night outdoors at the restaurant across the street.
Tuesday morning... sunrise from the balcony...
...and off along the coast mostly gentle hills at first...
even a nice new segregated bicycle path for a couple of kilometres...
The serious climbing was after lunch, the last one before getting to Cala Gonone being advertised as 200 metres to climb at an average gradient of 6%. Maximum gradient is always at least twice the average - this one hit 14%. Rae's new knees were up to the task - amazing! Just as amazing was the view when we got through the pass and had an equally steep descent into Cala Gonone = we sure heated up the brakes...
Cala Gonone seems to be mainly a resort with nice beach, boating and diving excursions. We relaxed and are now turning in for a longer day tomorrow - nearly 120 km with nearly 2700 metres of hills to climb starting with a 500 metre climb in the first 7 km out of the hotel, Looks like some rain too.

That's it for now.
